Coming fall 2027
I am teaming up again with my editor Laura Godwin at Henry Holt/Macmillan! This time with a story that sets the record straight on what truly happened at the zodiac race, retelling this traditional folklore from the perspective of its misunderstood winner—the gutsy, the precocious, the hilarious RAT! Thrilled to collaborate with the masterful illustrator Aki to bring this tale to life.
Coming summer 2029
It is a dream to announce this THREE-BOOK deal with my editor Laura Godwin at Henry Holt/Macmillan! My first graphic novel series, and a chance to work with my brilliant friend Maya Tatsukawa. IZZY AND WOLFI is an ode to the daily wonders of childhood. For so long, I have yearned for more stories that capture Asian families through the lens of joy, beyond extraordinary struggles or overcoming, beyond extraordinary excellence or tiger parents. Those are important stories (YES!). At the same time, I craved more narratives where Asian kids get to be JUST KIDS.
Make what you wish to see in the world. This series is that for me. And I can’t wait to share it with ALL of you!

Millie loves to help LaoLao cook, especially her favorite dish. Dumplings! They gather fresh ingredients from Chinatown. Chives from Auntie Lim, shrimp from Uncle Lee, and juicy, fragrant lychees that make their days together so sweet.
As the seasons change, LaoLao feels more and more tired, too tired to make dumplings. But can Millie make them without LaoLao? And will her dumplings come out delicious, and make LaoLao happy, too?
Full of humor, heart, and wholly original illustrations, this story is a timeless celebration of family, food, community, and the different ways we share love.
A young girl opening a teapot, releasing the scent of jasmine and small whimsical figures; an elderly woman with glasses and gray hair gently touches the girl's face. The girl holds a rolling pin in a scene suggesting spring and a caring interaction.
A busy street scene in Chinatown with people shopping, walking, and talking. Shopfronts include Crispy Duck, Everything Market, Pastries and Tea, Mr. Orange, and K's Salon. Some people are looking at stores, some are talking, and children and dogs are also present in the crowd.
A girl with dark hair and a big smile is eating a lychee fruit. She is surrounded by a large pile of lychees. There is a sign indicating the price of lychees. The background is light green, and the girl appears happy and content.
Steps of making dumplings: smashing.
A winter scene with a family and friends under hanging red lanterns, celebrating Lunar New Year. Grandpa brews a potion with ginseng and root bark, Grandma arranges a bouquet, and Big Sister Chau paints a lucky scroll. Snow falls on the sidewalk and snow-covered ground.
